Cleaning and check-ups

Root canal
Saves a tooth that would otherwise be pulled, usually in two visits.

How the prices work
Three things to know before you compare.

Ranges, not surprises
The low end is a simple case, the high end a complicated one. You are never billed above the range without a new plan you agreed to.

Per tooth means per tooth
Fillings, extractions and crowns are priced for one tooth, and the quote lists each one.

The consultation fee disappears
The NZ$75 consultation is waived when treatment starts the same day.

Raise your left hand and the dentist stops, for as long as you need.

Numbing gel before any needle
Topical gel first, then a slow injection. Most patients do not feel it.

Bring a playlist, ask for a blanket, split long visits into shorter ones.

ACC, cover and paying
Five things that change what you pay.
Two things are worth knowing before you read the prices. If a tooth was broken in an accident, ACC covers the treatment: we lodge the claim, and what you pay is the surcharge rather than the whole bill. And dental care is free until you turn eighteen, through the school service and then through a contracted dentist, which we are, so bring the form rather than the wallet. Everything else is private. We are not on an insurer's panel, so you pay us and claim back, and you get an itemised receipt with the treatment codes and the dentist's Dental Council number on it, which is what every insurer asks to see. Anything a plan does not cover is quoted before we start.
