On a narrow 10 by 25 metre lot, the plan wraps a 4 by 6 metre courtyard so every room gets private green and the house ventilates through the middle.

The brief
A 10 by 25 metre lot between two blank walls, and a brief for three bedrooms that all get daylight.
What we did
- 01
A 4 by 6 metre courtyard in the middle
Every room faces it, so the party walls stop mattering and the plan reads wider than the lot is.
- 02
Cross ventilation through the centre
Openings on two walls of every room line up across the courtyard, which is why the living room has never needed the aircon.
- 03
Service run on the hot west wall
Kitchen, laundry and bathrooms absorb the afternoon sun so the bedrooms do not.
